    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Administrating security related systems, cooperating with other teams around the business in our support capacity. We assist in scanning for vulnerabilities around the company with Nessus and also perform Line 1 Incident Response support.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Many, in every sense. Soft Skills, Powershell, Programming, Corporate Software, patching, vulnerabilities, engineering, Jenkins, AD, Windows, Security, Blue Teaming - Just off the top of my head. I got Cloud Academy, Code Academy and Immersive Labs too.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • A LOT of responsibility, we have admin access to many pieces of security software around the business, have superuser accounts and are responsible for responding to security alerts and taking the role of incident commander in security incidents

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • A lot - my Team, Team Leader and Manager were amazing, I genuinely could not ask for better people to work with - I never could have imagined working with people like this before I started at GR.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Extremely kind, respectful and with a great attitude towards learning - Naturally there were some ups and downs but day-to-day I was extremely happy and greatly enjoyed the warm atmosphere at the company

  • Every single day was fascinating and interesting with new oppurtunities to engage in new and interesting pieces of work and projects. I greatly enjoyed it all.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to G-Research
  • Definitely Apply, take your time and just do your best throughout the entire process, it was generally very personal and it involved a lot of phone calls with current staff, managers and your potential team members. Be yourself and don't be too anxious - we're all human.
