Overview
- General administrative work involving booking and scheduling training, interviews, contracts, etc. - Project based work - Sourcing candidates on LinkedIn Recruiter - Managing HR inboxes, JIRA tickets and performance management system
Skills
- Interpersonal skills (verbal & written interactions with everyone across the organisation) - Excel skills (used a lot for t4acking data and project work) - Resilience (joining virtually was very new and getting through lockdowns whilst working full time from home was tough) - *new skill* Received Workday training (popular HR system)
Responsibilities
- In charge of managing changes in the performance management system - In charge of monitoring, booking and organising training sessions - Given 2 significant projects during my time in Core HR - In charge of pulling together projects on LinkedIn Recruiter (sourcing candidates from across the globe)
Support & Guidance
- Weekly 1 to 1 meetings with direct manager in each team I rotated between (super supportive and informative catch ups) - Weekly team meetings to stay up-to-date with general team updates and specific projects
Culture
- Management were super friendly, supportive and easy to reach out to for guidance - Wider HR team were fun and the team catch ups were informative but entertaining - Difficult to get a feel for the full company culture as COVID-19 meant that the majority of the placement was WFH - Dedicated and hardworking staff across the board, super motivating seeing progress made by the whole company in quarterly all-hands catch ups
Your Impressions
Best decision I made! It taught me a lot about what to expect from HR and the workplace. Although it was tough at times, I think it helped me come out of my shell. I was initially worried about having high levels of responsibility (warned about this in the interview), I'm glad that that was the case as I feel as though it's a big part of why I'm more confident now.
Yes
Make sure to do your research on the company & read up on crypto, big data, AI, machine learning, python, etc. These are all things that you'll need a basic level of understanding in, particularly if you join a team like recruitment that interacts with quant researchers regularly (also helps so you're not completely clueless during all-hands catch ups). It's quite a fast-pace environment so make sure to take breathers when you can!
