    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Working mainly with Excel and Tableau, providing daily, weekly and monthly reporting for internal and external shareholders. Opportunity to work with a wide variety of departments, as well as develop relationships with outsourcers. Responsible to keep a tight deadline providing reports, as well as answering any queries that departments may have.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Opportunity to develop technical skills in Excel and Tableau software. Great if you want to improve analytics and data presentation skills as well. Had opportunities to lead projects and presentations, and has improved my confidence working with customers.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Opportunity to be a fly on the wall in project discussions, to be a key-cog, or to lead. These range from projects within the company where reports need improvement, or projects with outsourcers. I had the opportunity to lead a project with outsourcers, so that was great exposure.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Daily, weekly and monthly team meetings give you exposure to potential projects to get involved with. If I have ever had a problem, there has always been someone in the team to help. However, with no real mentoring, or real progress plan for what my year will look like, I have been stuck doing similar tasks since day one.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?
  • 5/5

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Difficult beginning work during COVID. First few months, only met 2/3 people in my team, and there were no socials online. Post-COVID has been better, with social events for leaving events/occasional monthly get together. Diversity Initiatives seem great, monthly reports to prove. Haven't seen/heard many opportunities to get involved in charity, local community or leisure clubs (except for 3-month period where there was company football). Great when people are in the office. Haven't enjoyed WFH.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • Enjoyed my first experience working in a team. Everyone is super friendly, fun to be around, and supportive in helping your improvement. Unfortunately, I just found that this role wasn't for me. I didn't enjoy the repetitiveness of reporting, non-stop computer work, and that the work had no social benefit. Don't think I would go back, but that isn't on the company or team as I loved them both, more on the role not being for me. The job met my expectations of what I thought a role in the finance industry would look like, but I just realised that I don't want that.

  • 7. Would you recommend Volkswagen Financial Services to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Volkswagen Financial Services
  • Interview process, just be friendly. Prepare to answer questions about VW Financial Services, not VW Group. When interviewing, be friendly and talk about yourself, they're interviewing people who they will spend all day with. Go in with an open mind, the support is great for teaching you your role. Take up every opportunity, and ask for more.
