Overview
Initially acted as CAD support developing technical skills, to eventually working on multi-disciplinary design projects - this involves majority CAD work but also requires looking into technical standards, discussing topics with senior engineers and using creativity to come up with unique engineering solutions.
Skills
I have developed the following: General Rail Knowledge CAD ability on MicroStation Everyday communication Professional report writing Document control on project wise Producing risk registers Begin chartership progress
Responsibilities
I had to be keen and act positively in order to gain responsibility. Initially this started slow but after 3 months I began gaining more responsibility. It is essential the placement student acts and works hard to get responsibility.
Support & Guidance
Guidance and support was always available, everyone is really friendly and helpful.
Culture
I felt really comfortable, everyone is keen for a quick chat and open to helping others when they can. There are plenty of socials which help with moral and team building.

I thoroughly enjoyed the placement, so much so I have extended beyond a year.
Yes
Get involved as early as possible, show enthusiasm and wanting to go the extra mile to complete tasks. This will show you want to excel and they'll give you more and more responsibility.
