  • Implemented tracking tools to monitor key performance metrics of our EMEA distributor and partner portfolios Engaged with high-potential partners, identifying opportunities to drive business growth and build solutions Provided sales revenue reports, opportunity forecasts, gross to net profit summaries and historical data analysis Supported the successful onboarding and training of my replacement after receiving a contract extension

  • Your responsibility increases as the year goes by, especially once the previous intern leaves (usually 1-2mths after you start). Your responsibilities may not take up that much time, it's up to you to seek out opportunities to gain wider experience and make your placement more valuable

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • In addition to your task manager and immediate team, you're assigned a Foundation Manager, who aims to support your development, help with any issues you have and help you make the most of our internship both in terms of experience and socially. Overall, really good support which goes a long way for many interns who are getting their first taste of industry experience

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • There's a really strong, positive culture at IBM. There's a mutual respect among employees regardless of if they're a manager or intern, your ideas and contributions are welcome and valued. IBM tend to hire 100s of placement students each year in London, probably a lot in our other branches too, so you meet a lot of likeminded friendly people and there's plenty of socials and communities to join

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • Overall I really enjoyed it, mostly because I found out opportunities to widen my experience beyond my core responsibility so I got a taste of many different areas of the company. I'd encourage everyone else to do the same, as well as take up any social opportunities you find. I've reapplied to join back as a graduate, and would happily return to IBM

  • It's up to you to make it a valuable year, so make sure you use this year as a platform to develop your skills and gain plenty of experience and connections. The social side as an intern is great too, so make sure you make the most of that
