Overview
My role this year has consisted of supporting the HR Business Development team at IBM with the people aspect of their Mergers, Acquisitions, Divestitures and Outsourcing deals. On a day to day basis, my role involves: updating the team's management system, supporting with the onboarding process, being involved in/ minuting TUPE meeting minutes, supporting the team with any general admin as well as being involved in Foundation Communities outside of my day to day role.
Skills
I have learnt how to extensively network, how to prioritise work effectively, how to use HR systems such as Workday, have gained knowledge in different Business Development deal types, advanced my excel skills significantly, and also completed 4 extra certifications outside of my day to day role.
Responsibilities
Yes I was given a significant amount of responsibility, including answering employee queries/ developing a rapport with them, managing data and regularly completing reports. This required a lot of trust between me and my manager.
Support & Guidance
I have received a wide range of support and guidance during my placement year. You receive guidance from your day to day 'task manager' as well as your Foundation Manager who looks after you on your placement year. As well as support from the Foundation team at IBM, who are always there to answer any queries you may have.
Culture
The general atmosphere was definitely positive- every IBMer is always there to offer support, guidance and offer any potential shadowing opportunities where possible- your early career matters to every single person! The general culture at IBM is extremely friendly, and you definitely feel part of the IBM family; as every employee is referred to as an 'IBMer'!
Your Impressions
I have really enjoyed my placement. I have faced many challenges, but with a high level of support and guidance, I have been able to overcome these challenges, meaning the experience I have gained has been invaluable.
