Overview
During the year I have worked in treasury, accounting and admin roles. Daily tasks involved reconciling G/L accounts, managing and sending invoices to customers. Responsible for looking after cashbook and ensuring payments were paid on time. I also worked on various projects such as a fixed asset audit, flowcharts for the company billing process and working with EY on the company's audit.
Skills
Increased self management skills especially as I have worked from home all year. IT skills- I was relatively inexperienced with Excel and had no experience with SAP. I now feel much more confident in using Excel as I use it every day at work. The company has great learning courses for Excel and I am now proficient at creating my own macros using Excel VBA. Communication- Having been in close contact with company executives and managers I feel much more confident presenting and communicating with others in a work setting.
Responsibilities
From day one you are treated just like any other employee with a lot of responsibility which I really appreciated.
Support & Guidance
I was in a really encouraging team that took interest in me so I felt comfortable asking for help whenever I was stuck or wanted to talk about my future career plans.
Culture
As I was working from home I think it was a bit harder to gauge the company atmosphere as a whole but in general I thought that everyone was really supportive and helpful.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the experiences that I gained while on placement and I think it will help me in my future accounting career. There were a few tasks that got quite monotonous but I would say in general that the work that I did was enjoyable.
Yes
This placement really helped me decide on what career path to take as I wasn't too sure before I started the placement. Throughout the year you are exposed to a lot of different roles and parts of the company. If you are not 100% sure on the type of accounting or finance role you want to do in the future then I recommend this placement. Also, learn your double entry book keeping!!
