    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Daily I would be looking after small contracts such as NDAs and loan agreements, doing admin tasks like writing emails, managing my diary and scheduling meetings, I would be give contracts and contractual documents to review and analyse. I did a lot of letter writing and creating spreadsheets

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learnt skills specific to the job such as legal and contractual knowledge, drafting and presentation skills. I have really developed my communication skills, both written and verbal and confidence

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given responsibility of communicating directly with customers and suppliers and also employees throughout the business, I was also given almost sole responsibility over NDAs for fellow placement students and allowed to work independently on smaller documents like loan agreements. However I would say a lot of my work felt less interesting and meaningful than I would have liked, none the less it was still appreciated by the team

  • Please rate how meaningful the work you were doing was

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I did have access to support from my line manager and the team during my placement, however I had to reach out for it a lot. My manager started off having weekly check ins with me but these stopped after a few months and I did feel more on my own towards the end. The wider team were always happy to help out but often would not get me involved in their work & I found myself having to send calls for work out multiples times, which were largely ignored

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?
  • 4/5

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture is positive and welcoming, its nice that there's a large intern community at the Cheltenham site, although due to covid we couldn't make the most of it. My team were social and I, as the intern was in charge of organising social events which was fun. We took part in a volunteering/team building day organised by me too. There is also a good amount to do in cheltenham

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I enjoyed my placement experience overall, i think it allowed me to develop in a lot of areas and grow as a person. I met some really nice people and will continue to keep those connections. I would say I was disappointed by the actual work side of it, it was not as 'legal' as I expected, more business and contracts oriented so I dont think it should be specifically marketed to law students

  • 7. Would you recommend GE Aerospace to a friend?
  • No

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to GE Aerospace
  • I would say do research on the company before, its beneficial to be interested in the area of industry (I am not and this made it a bit boring at times), I think for the specific role i'd say don't expect to feel like you're working in a solicitor type role, its very much more business and admin based, however the team are really nice and its not intimidating at all
