    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Assisting your managers with daily tasks, which could include meeting preparations, setting up product calls, creating product numbers, and ordering samples to regional teams. You can be involved with the new product launches for 2022/2023, assisting managers and the team with testing and gathering information about the project. You can also be apart of the creations of artwork and packaging for the product. All Outdoor Power Tools Products

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Communications Skills - learning how to be clear and precise when informing other members of the business about what you are doing and how you are going to contribute. Presenting Skills - sometimes we might have to present at monthly meeting about the Outdoor Market, which can sometimes be to over 50+people. Organization and time keeping skills - making sure that you achieve what needs to be done in the time frame that it is needed in.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • As an intern, I am given more responsibilities than expected. We are an important member of the team, assisting all of those in it. High responsibilities include ordering samples, creating products information slides, presenting at monthly company meetings etc.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Lots of support and guidance from those in the business. Weekly catch-up team meetings and 1 to 1 meetings with managers to discuss projects or communicate on important topics. All members of the business are always willing to help out and assist when needed and are happy to provide feedback if necessary.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Lots of interactive social activities through zoom each month, some events including Black History Month, International Woman's Day, Pride Month etc. Training Days have also allowed those working from home to come into the office and interact with other members of the business. COVID has restricted my placement year, but it would be common or members of the business to attend team events and socials as well as travel for seminars and conferences etc.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed by placement at SBD so far, and have been able to experience a professional atmosphere first hand. My team has been wonderful, always being able to help and support if necessary. I believe I have attained some key business skills while working at SBD, which will be able to help guide me to my next job after finishing my university degree in business management.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Stanley Black & Decker
  • For the interview process, rehearse and prepare for what you could be asked. Research interview questions and write down important bits of information you might need. When starting your internship, no question is a stupid question, and if you are stuck, never hold back when asking for help. Always be organized, on time and friendly, and make sure that you produce high standard and detailed work even if its a small task.
