Overview
This role involves making the tasks the operators complete easier, safer and more efficient. Day to day this would involve completing and altering documents to help operators understand the process. This also involves designing new tooling, machinery or lifters to solve any issues which are experience. I would then have to communicate these with suppliers to get them made before completing their introduction to the line.
Skills
I have greatly improved my creativity, design and problem solving skills. A lot of this is improved by completing different projects. I have worked with teams much large than I previously have so have learnt team work and communication skills in these environments. Communication skills are further developed as you have to talk to suppliers in a way that ideas are portrayed clearly to gain the best outcome.
Responsibilities
The placement is very hands on from the first week. During the placement I was continuously given my own projects to lead and tackle on my own in the way I deemed best. However, whenever help was required I could speak to others within the office for guidance and advice.
Support & Guidance
I was always given guidance from other members within the office. my direct contact was my supervisor who would be the one who would check up on work I have done, however if I ever asked other members of the office for help they would always be happy to do so. During projects, I have outreached to other departments who gave assistance when required.
Culture
The company culture appears to be a helpful one. As a whole people are friendly and happy to help. This ranges from the operators on the line I have had interactions with through to other office staff. Nobody has ever been rude to me or around me. A good report can be built with many different people where friendly conversations can be had.
Your Impressions
I have very much enjoyed my placement. I have been able to get stuck in to a variety of different projects which have been implemented on the line, making my placement feel successful. I have worked within a good work environment, where people have been kind and I have felt included.
Yes
During the interview process make sure you have a good understanding of the company and the role you will be joining. It is a large plant so there are many different aspects. Look at the various different roles and make sure you apply for the one that excites you and you feel that you would enjoy the most. In the interviews be yourself as they want to know that you will be good for the role but also know you as a person.
