Overview
My daily role involved reviewing changes being made to parts on the new engine project I was assigned to - this consisted of keeping in touch with the related engineer, the Design Integration Leader and occasionally the project technical leader. I was also responsible for ensuring the parts lists were kept up to date and revised when changed, in addition to occasionally running meetings to receive and give updates on progress.
Skills
There is a lot of opportunity for development at Cummins - with access to a wide variety of training material that isn't necessarily specific to the role. I developed a wide range of professional skills, in addition to deepening my understanding of the diesel engine - I was also able to partake in a two-day training course to breakdown and rebuild a 19L engine.
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement - every task I was assigned was my own and while I was always supported, I was able to take full responsibility over its completion. Toward the end of my placement I was also able to take responsibility for the whole project as it neared its completion.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support - everyone I worked with was willing to help as and when I needed it.
Culture
The company is very supportive of getting involved with events outside your main role, for example, each employee is entitled to at least 4 working hours to spend on a volunteering project within the community.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my placement a lot - being able to get involved with activities outside my main role meant that I got a lot of opportunities to develop other skills and to meet others I wouldn't have normally. I also felt very supported during my placement and by everyone I worked with.
Yes
The interview process is like most others, you will likely be expected to do a short presentation, answer some typical interview questions and some more technical questions, depending on the role you applied for.
