Overview
Key Responsibilities: To work as part of a cross functional development team, liaising with Formulators, Engineers and Analytical Scientists, to deliver the work packages required to provide real time insight to formulation unit operations and platforms. To make innovative contributions by providing experimental data, technical insight and chemometric modelling of data to solve complex problems using practical and theoretical understanding. The job holder may act as an expert in specific unit operations. They will be expected to master a body of knowledge for a specific technology or unit operation and use this to act as the functional expert in the department.
Skills
I learnt experimental techniques from working in a laboratory as well as data analysis skills via the use of a new software for multivariate data modelling. I also learnt the practical aspects of supporting a manufacturing process and how to react to unexpected circumstances. I improved my soft skills of liaising with colleagues and external suppliers as well as presentation and report writing, significantly increasing my confidence. Teamwork was also a fundamental skill that I further developed as there was a significant amount of collaboration between team members to achieve common goals.
Responsibilities
Yes, I collaborated on active projects and carried out key tasks for the team.
Support & Guidance
Quite a lot, I can always ask questions if I have them and my team members are very supportive and open-minded.
Culture
Great, GSK puts the well-being of its employees at the core of its mission and ensures that everyone is included and feels at ease. Most people are friendly and ready to help whenever needed.
Your Impressions
I loved it, I wish I could remain as a full time employee. I really enjoyed my role and could continue doing it, also the team is fantastic and I would want to remain with them. There were plenty of opportunities organised by the student network of over 300 placement students which led to amazing experiences and opportunities that I got to have.
Yes
If it is something you want, give it everything you have because the process is very competitive but what comes afterwards of you get the placement is absolutely worth it! I have a great experience and would recommend it to anyone interested in this type of industry.
