Overview
Our weekly tasks included sourcing and loading retailer sales data, classifying new products and reporting sales. I also performed data cleanups on a monthly basis. I was also responsible in assisting the business with any consumer-product-related questions. Using our databases to show performance, benchmark and draw insights for improvement.
Skills
The job role was a great way to develop my Excel and analytical skills further. There's also opportunity to improve your coding if that is something you are interested in. Soft skills wise, throughout this placement I gained a lot of confidence in my capabilities. I also became better at communication and started getting more comfortable in taking initiative.
Responsibilities
I would have preferred to have more responsibility during my placement. Outside of my daily tasks, I sometimes got to work on exciting projects but that would not happen too often. It felt like enough at the start of the placement but I would have liked more responsibility over time. Also, I would have preferred more exposure to the wider business as most of our work was contained in our team.
Support & Guidance
Everyone I have met in the company has been incredibly nice and supportive, especially my managers. It was a great place to learn and develop as it felt fine to make mistakes. My managers welcomed any questions and ideas, however, I could have done with more feedback from them. We also have an Intern Development Program which touches upon technical and soft skills, making sure interns come out with equal core skills.
Culture
Overall, the company atmosphere is welcoming and friendly, everyone you meet is incredibly nice. In the office, Disney hosts a lot of exciting events: meeting Disney characters, movie screenings, mental health and diversity events, etc. There is also voluntEARs initiatives which you are encouraged to participate in.
Your Impressions
Because of COVID, I started my placement by working from home and then halfway through, we came back into the office. Working from the office, I got to experience the company culture a lot better and generally enjoyed my time more. Through my time here, I realized that this field and an office job is not for me but I would still recommend doing a placement at Disney to someone else.
Yes
Before your interview, I highly suggest doing research on the company, its values and looking at any recent news, releases, initiatives. If I had to interview for the job again, I would definitely focus on showing my personality more. My managers have pointed out how that is something they pay attention to when recruiting. For any new starters, I would recommend to join in on as many events as they can.
