Overview
I assist the Financial managers with their weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual tasks. I generate reports that the business use on a weekly basis, I post journals, monitor and perform SOX controls, manage SGA cost centres and collate a weekly business report that is sent to senior management.
Skills
The placement has developed every skill imaginable. Specifically, excel, communication, organisational, time management, attention to detail and how to conduct myself in a professional environment.
Responsibilities
Yes - early on I was given tasks that were important and if not done correctly would impact the business. For example I was responsible for creating a weekly business forecast that was sent to the president of Honda UK. I was also tasked with creating slides discussing the UK economy that the Senior Leadership team used in budget events/to present to Japanese colleagues.
Support & Guidance
Within my team the support has been good. I have always been able to ask questions where colleagues make time to go through tasks and techniques in detail. However, I believe more in depth training towards the start of the placement would've been beneficial because it would've provided more context of how my role fit into the big picture. Honda provided general training to all associates fairly regularly and my team always helped me progress.
Culture
Honda are all about respecting the individual and creating a friendly and welcoming work atmosphere. They base the culture on the three joys, with a focusing on creating joy for everyone involved.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the placement. There were ups and downs with Covid-19 affecting the amount I could come into the office. But on the whole I have met many amazing people and learnt a lot about what I like/don't like. If I had to do it all again I would make the same decision to apply to Honda.
