Overview
During month end; day to day procedures included running cost centre reports, holding SGA meetings and discussing monthly budgeting and spendings. Posting of accruals and journals would be the result of these meetings to make sure accurate spendings would be reported. On an ad hoc daily basis other finance activities such as reconicilations and data uploads would be done.
Skills
The main skill that was improved was my interpersonal and sociable skills. Through month end meetings and liasing with stakeholders conversing in a personable but professional manner was crucial. I was speaking with some employees who were very senior and portraying myself as a credible collegue was important. The second skill I was able to improve majorly were my Excel skills. Through reporting and general accountning practices my Excel skills are advanced now.
Responsibilities
I was given an immense amount of responsibility within this role. I was holding monthly meetings with senior managers discussing the budgeting and SGAs within their cost centres. I was also pulling month end reports and stats which the SVPs would view.
Support & Guidance
I was given an immense about of support during my placement from my manager, other team members as well as other placement students. Honda is a company that values relationships not only as a company with their customers but also within the company between internal stakeholders.
Culture
Honda's culture is very much based on relationships not only between the company and customers but also within the company between internal stakeholders. The company is revolved around the 3 joys - as employees at Honda we want to enjoy our work, our customers want to enjoy our products and all together we want to enjoy the success in our brand and products.
Your Impressions
The best part about placement was the people I got meet - the other undergrads as well as the internal stakeholders within the business. Everyone was welcoming and motivated to teach me new things which made placement a enjoying experience despite the work being challenging at times.
Yes
Other advice I would give other poeple applying to Honda is to prepare for the assessment day and to research Honda's philosphy.
