Overview
My role is to perform general tests. These tests can be for pretty much anything such as the user interface, the application program interface, general accessibility or testing live web servers. I'll either run these tests manually or program tests which are ran automatically by the computer.
Skills
After working through my placement and receiving guidance from the staff I worked with I've become well acquainted with a lot of forms of testing which I'd never had the chance to learn at university. My general communication overall has improved as well thanks to being in the office and being able to work with staff face to face as well as written communication when emailing colleagues with necessary information.
Responsibilities
I've been provided with a lot of important responsibilities such as testing important changes that have been deployed to live for clients which if were not tested properly would cause a lot of issues for customers. I've also been given the responsibility of reviewing changes that other testers have made to make sure what's been written is correct and won't break existing systems when deploying it to live servers
Support & Guidance
A lot of support, my placement gave me access to 3 different support staff. One being my line manager who I report to monthly, a buddy who helped me at the start of my placement to get settled with everything I need and then a mentor who works along side me in the same team every day so I get to comfortably talk back and forth to them.
Culture
The atmosphere was very comfortable and was able to have casual conversations with my colleagues, most of which share similar general interests to me so it made the atmosphere a lot less awkward when getting used to the people I work around all the time.
Your Impressions
Had an absolute blast and would happily do it over all again!
Yes
Don't panic about being perfect when you first arrive, there's plenty of guidance around you to ease you into your role. Enjoy it!
