Overview
I supported the team by investigating bugs reported by the users of the software and explained them to the developers so that they can fix them. I also automated some QA processes and worked with a completely different team as I found their work interesting.
Skills
I improved my programming skills by learning Javascript from scratch and using that knowledge to automate some processes. I also learnt how to use Oasys LS-DYNA which is an FMEA software.
Responsibilities
I wouldn't say so. In most cases, I worked on tasks that are not vital to the performance of the team and that didn't have strict deadlines.
Support & Guidance
I got a lot of guidance. Whenever I needed help, I could just ask and I would receive support.
Culture
I loved the company culture. I never really thought like there were bosses at work. Everyone is seen as equal and I feel comfortable chatting with people at any grade.
Your Impressions
It was an amazing experience. I learnt so much about a working environment and despite not seeing myself doing the same role after I graduate, the placement helped me find the field I want to work in.
Yes
If you find something that interests you in a completely different team, do not be afraid to ask about it. Don't be scared to ask your line manager if you would be allowed to do some work for another team as there is a good likelihood that you will be allowed.
