Overview
Would get given support cases from clients in which I had to investigate the problem they had with the software and provide a solution. Used scripting to automate processes that would previously have involved significant manual input. Had daily interactions with my line manager discussing current work and possible future work.
Skills
Developed further scripting/coding skills - learnt a couple of different programming languages. Improved public speaking skills through a couple of presentations made to my wider group. Working within my team improved my teamworking skills.
Responsibilities
I was given quite a few responsibilities. Involved a lot within various different projects - I had autonomy on the automation of the internal QA testing, streamlining the process for future rounds of QA.
Support & Guidance
Received a lot of support throughout my placement. Had regular meetings with line managers in order to catch up with what work I had been doing and if I needed any extra support from them. If I had a problem I was struggling with they were very helpful, giving their time to support me and help me figure out the problem.
Culture
Quite a few socials were organised for the team and for those in the graduate scheme. There's a strong strive for sustainability at Arup. General atmosphere was welcoming - everyone was extremely friendly and easy to approach.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement. I found the majority of the tasks I was given interesting and enjoyable. My team were all really nice and helpful and overall was a lovely place to work.
