Overview
On a daily basis you will be assisting the different finance functions with reconciliations, as well as getting involved in many other various projects. An average day will likely change significantly throughout the year as you get new responsibilities or as you move to where help is needed. You will also work on month end activities which will have important deadlines that need to be met.
Skills
I have gained a lot of new skills at Volvo, firstly using software such as Excel, SAP and Navision which are used daily. Working within multiple finance functions you will gain a better understanding of how a finance department works and the importance of each function. In your first two weeks you will receive an induction to the business which gives a helpful perspective of how the financial services industry works.
Responsibilities
You will be given a good amount of responsibility right from the beginning, however if you have any issues or are struggling the rest of the team are very helpful and are more than happy to help. Members of the team will also often reach out to ask if you are able to get involved in projects which can offer a good opportunity to gain new experiences and more exposure to the business.
Support & Guidance
Volvo are very good at supporting interns and some of your responsibilities will already have notes which is very helpful when you are first starting out and trying to get to grips with everything. However, if you encounter any issues the entire team is helpful and can point you in the right direction.
Culture
Very positive culture and atmosphere, you feel like a full-time part of the team and that your opinions are valued as opposed to just feeling like an intern. There are company-wide events normally every quarter or so.
Your Impressions
I highly enjoyed the placement and learned a lot of valuable lessons and skills while there. Volvo is a great company to work for who really care about all their employees, and they offer many opportunities to try new things and to make sure you get the most out of your placement.
Yes
Learning as much as you can about Volvo Group before interviewing will really help to make you stand out. Also gain a wider knowledge by researching what is currently happening in the industry and in the news that relates to the company.
