  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role is to answer daily queries from our customs broker, this includes advising tariffs and CPCs needed to clear shipments through customs. I also carry out quarterly audits, complete monthly reports and support other members of my team as and when needed.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, for example queries from our customs broker were quickly became a task i did independently. This is important to do correctly as the company could face fines if incorrect information is given continuously. Anoth task I handled was ensuring our exports do not reach P5 stage, if this happens the company would be liable and could possibly face fines for this too.

  • Incredible amount of support, my team were always happy to answer questions over teams or over calls. Questions are encouraged and always answered fully. Training was consistent and informative throughout.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Very supportive and happy. My team had meetings twice a week to catch up on non-work things as we are all working from home and it meant the whole team got on really well.

  • I really enjoyed my placement, it was a good introduction to the working world and the company is definitely one i would look to work for in the future as it supports it's staff and encourages career progression.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Cummins
  • Make sure you know at least basic excel skills (eg vlookups, how to use filters, using pivot tables etc) as for my role nearly al my tasks were based on excel. It is a really good skill to have and will make the first few weeks a lot smoother.
