Overview
Developing test strategies and programs for testing circuit card assemblies. Investigating problems that arise and work through them to find a solution to the failure and how to prevent it repeating. Working with different testing equipment, such as flying probes to test and find any possible faults with the components.
Skills
I've gained a lot of new skills including how to read electronic schematics, component data sheets, further developed electronic fundamentals, data analysis, testing methodologies, radio wave technology, how to give presentations, programming flying probe testers, 3D modelling etc...
Responsibilities
I was given responsibility and real projects to work on and was included in team meetings where I would provide feedback on what I had been working on. I also had regular meetings with the principle engineer who would provide me with daily / weekly tasks and provide full support throughout.
Support & Guidance
There was lots of support from several members of the department which was a great help. Nothing was ever too much trouble and I was always able to contact someone willing to help. The principle engineer and manager were both incredibly helpful too and I can't fault their guidance.
Culture
The company culture and atmosphere is pretty relaxed, lots of friendly people and very welcoming, at least in the department I worked in. I imagine it's very similar company wide.
Your Impressions
I've had a great time on my placement, overall its been a fantastic opportunity and I met lots of great people. There are a couple of things that could be improved such as formal training sessions / classes for technical skills but I'm only nit-picking. I gained a lot of industry relevant skills and would recommend MBDA for Undergrads / grads.
Yes
Make sure to ask lots of questions, there's a lot to learn and no question is considered stupid. Try to relax as much as you can during the assessment process and be yourself, its a good day. Make the most of networking as lots of opportunities can open up to you.
