Overview
Undergraduate Systems Engineer in Systems Analysis. I have been part of customer meetings and reviews of my work for the customers, along with have a big part in my department work wise. Multiple different projects including organising and taking part in an advertising project across different sites, within a specific budget. Been on multiple trips across sites for different reasons. Answering questions from different department members on the work I have been doing as I have been solely responsible.
Skills
I have developed my coding skills immensely as this was the biggest part of my placement. I have also had to work on different skills such as report writing and laboratory work, as this was involved in my placement. I have both worked independent and in a team so I have developed skill in both of these. During the marketing event I developed skills in work flexibility and also socialising as I had to explain my department to many people.
Responsibilities
I was personally given a lot of responsibility as I was the only member of my team working on the portion of work I have spent my placement concentrating on. This meant I often had to make design decisions that i would later have to justify to other members when explaining my work. During the organisation of the marketing event this was also not given a lot of responsibility as there was minimum oversight of the grad & under-grad led project.
Support & Guidance
I don't think the ECP team gave the undergraduate population any support of guidance that was needed, and we were just expected to get on with it. I think my team was very good at offering support, specifically my TC, line manager and head of dept., who all tried to give all support possible during my time on this placement, including allowing me to work in different departments to allow me to see more of the workplace.
Culture
The atmosphere in MBDA has been extremely accepting and friendly and I have had no problem with socialising and making friends while working at the company. My team have also done "team-building" events to try and ensure that even with people working at home, we are all still communicating as friends, both inside and outside of work, which I think is important when you are new to a company. I highly reccomend this company if looking for friendly people
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my time working at MBDA, and hope to be able to return as a graduate. I have enjoyed the work I have been doing, as although sometimes stressful it is very interesting and a good level of challenging. I have also made some very good friends in the company, which makes working a lot better, and have managed to have a good social life inside and outside of working hours due to this.
Yes
Answer all questions honestly, and refer to other work experience you have had in an interview. HHaving any work experience (even outside of engineering) means you can relate this to the questions you are asked at interview. Make friends with the other grads /undergrads as this allows you to be able to go out after work and on nights out, and either live in filton or near glouster road, as neither of these are hard to get into city centre from etc.
