Overview
As a Commercial intern I work closely with retailors and marketing to plan launch strategies and digital activations to accelerate sales of our fragrances. Additionally, there is alot of admin. I need to ensure retailors have product details to order our fragrances as well as providing them with imagery and copy for their website. I also update our accounts retail reports weekly, so we know how our brands are performing.
Skills
My experience at Loreal has been invaluable. A key skill ive developed is my ability to manage my time and prioritise. Loreal is a very busy and fast paced environment. You need to prioritise tasks to ensure key jobs are done by specified deadlines, as other people in the business rely on your tasks being completed. Also, becoming accountable as you need to ensure you are aware of all updates and changes within your division.
Responsibilities
When you start at Loreal you go head first, which is daunting at first but you quickly get to grips with everything. I was expected to take ownership of my tasks from the moment i started and have my jobs completed by the deadline. The longer I was there the more responsibilities I was given.
Support & Guidance
My manager and team were very helpful. They were very happy to help, however they could. I found its was the people I worked closely with who helped me find my feet and become confident in my role. Loreal also provide many detailed learning courses whether it be on Excel, PowerPoint or time management.
Culture
Overall the culture is good. Most people are nice and helpful, there are regular socials scheduled with your team and people are encouraged to take breaks and focus on your mental wellbeing. However its difficult to implement these breaks into your day due to the heavy workload and high expectations. The atmosphere in the office is usually positive. People are happy to be back in the office after Covid which contributes to this.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement. Working at one of the largest companies in the world has been invaluable. Even when I thought I was prepared to work in a large corporation, I can now say I wasn't. But this is why I enjoyed working at Loreal so much, even more than first anticipated. The fast paced environment keeps the job exciting. I also love being around so many different people.
