The Role
The placement year here at Cummins has been an amazing experience, opened up to the world of work and been able to continually developed during the entire year.
You feel part of a team from day one, your collegues vlue you as a key member of the team. You also get invited to many socials and they become more like lifetime friends.
The management team on my placement were very approachable and gave guidance to all queries that I had. Training oportunities were always given to me.
Your alway busy and there is always something to do. I have never felt I had no work. While working you also are alway aware of improvement and trying to continually improve.
The responsibilities given were way beyond my expectations, im my placement year I had weekly visits to our biggest Customers and dealing with the customers directly
I feel I have depelope hugely both personally and proffesionally. I will truly cherish all the skills I have gained and take this back to university and future life.
The Company
The characters in the office are very open minded, at times you can have a laugh and other time you have to be serious and get the job done.
As I was given a lot of responsibility I had to develop my own time plan and organised my week myself, although a lot of guidance was picked up from the previous student and my manager.
Majority of the training I went on was internally within Cummins Darlington plant. Although the training recieved was good and appreciated, there were other opportunities to be developed which may have been overlooked. But what I did recieve was great.
Flexi Time

Company Car
Subsidised/Company Gym
There is opportunity for a future career here and an very much looking forward to the prospect of coming back.
The Culture
The social life as a placement student is amazing. As there were 12 other students and many other graduates. Nights out are planned almost weekly and you feel like you have friends and people around you instantly.
The cost of living is very cheap compared to other area's and you get invited to an open day to meet other students and organise places to live together.
Darlington is very good when you have people around you and have had some good night out here. Newcatle, Middlesborough and Durham are all very close and are amazing for nights out.
The opportunities are trully endless, you can pretty much do anything you life. As a student we get to organise many charity event, social and way to get involved in the community. There is alway an opprtunity.
