Overview
Took part in tasks that are what a typical trainee would do at the firm. We also had to have meetings with other Vacation Schemers as we also needed to prepare for our presentations. We could also attend team meetings and departmental sessions to build a wider understanding of the firm.
Skills
I learned more about time management and ensuring I did not overextend my capacity. Furthermore, there was also an interesting development session where we established our own communication styles through a specific formula. Mover, within my team I developed my drafting and writing skills making sure I was accurate in what I wrote.
Business Insight
This really helped. It gave you a sense of what a law firm does, how it makes money but also monitor the financial performance of individuals through systems like tracking billing hours. I learned more about the increasing issue with staff retention and how the law firm is adapting to marketing themselves as different to the competition.
Culture
BCLP has a big emphasis on its culture. There is a flat hierarchy where the open plan offices are shared with all fee-earners, from paralegals to partners. Everyone makes an effort to be approachable and friendly. There is also an effort to make you feel like part of the team whilst you're at the firm as well.
Your Impressions
The team and the culture were great. It did exceed my expectations, even though I was aware of BCLP's inclusive culture and friendliness.
Yes
Honestly, do your research. Really understand why you would like to apply to BCLP. Do not just look on their website, alternate your sources and build your own idea. It will also help you when it comes to structuring a strong detailed interview answer.
