Overview
I was processing the orders for Amazon and Just my Look, two ecommerce accounts. I also managed the customer's catalogues and our own internal portfolios, disputed chargebacks and worked on other projects. At my placement, I learnt how to build Power BI dashboards and excel reports which were used for month end reporting and weekly tracking of customer supply chain KPIs. I also worked on projects within the customer experience team.
Skills
I have learnt Power BI, a microsoft reporting tool, which I used to build montghly and weekly dashboards tracking stock levels and the amount of stock brought in and sold out by customers. I learnt how to build excel dashboards, a number of excel formulas and how to build simple excel macros to help with my day to day tasks. I also learnt how to use SAP, the platform used to manage stock and process customer's orders.
Responsibilities
I was given a good deal of responsibility within my placement as I was not limited to purely operational tasks. My projects had a bigger divisional impact outside of just my team and I believe the level of responsibility that I had meant the role was very fulfilling.
Support & Guidance
I was supported by a great number of people throughout my placement, in my direct supply chain team and through the rest of the company. I had a mentor which was a massive help in settling in. However, you do need to take your support into your own hands and if you do not ask, you will not receive a lot of the time.
Culture
A very pleasant place to work, a lot of socials and a very nice atmosphere in the office. Definitely the biggest perk of L'Oréal.
Your Impressions
Very enjoyable experience overall, could have been slightly more technical but was a very fun year and had a lot of responsibility as an intern. There is a lot of movement in the company so my manager was new to the role and I was without a manager for the first 2 months which was unusual and a bit difficult at times. However, past that I would recommend loreal for placement years.
Yes
Apply early and don't be too nervous for the interview. It is a very friendly working environment. Read up on the website and make sure you have examples linking back to the 5 loreal ethics. You don't need any excel skills before hand, as long as you are willing o learn and can pick things up quickly you will be good for the job.
