Overview
Speaking to clients. Conducting stock counts. Calling and casting accounts (proof reading).
Skills
Developed excel skills. Ability to speak to colleagues and clients in a professional manner. A greater understanding of accountancy.
Responsibilities
Provided with a lot of a support at the start of placement. But later in the placement I would attend client sites by myself. I also helped with the training of new graduates. Responsible for getting worked signed off when required.
Support & Guidance
Provided a lot of support from colleagues at the start of the placements but as I was later moved between teams there was definitely a time when there was little support.
Culture
Fairly small office so most people get to know each other. Definitely opportunities to do non related work activities together which helps build relationships even amount different departments. The “grow your own” culture very visible through the amount of training available.
Your Impressions
I joined during the height of Covid so it was difficult to learn the job remotely and without social interaction. However, once the placement went on and we could meet everyone in the office, it became more enjoyable. There have been more difficult times due to staff restructuring but there is positives of the office expanding as you get to work with a more diverse teams.
No
Do not need to worry about level of understanding of accountancy, you will learn this on the job. Just be prepared to take on different roles and to work with different teams in different offices.
