Overview
In store: working stock, ensuring stores are clean and tidy. Daily management tasks including stock counts, inventory controls and due diligence are completed daily. During your Assistant Store Manager cover you improve your ability to manage entire store teams and delegation abilities.
Skills
The high demands of the role have improved my work ethic, as well as my ability to prioritise tasks. My versatility and adaptability has improved to the the ever-changing nature of the industry in which Aldi operates. Most importantly my leadership qualities and my ability to manage people has significantly improved as IPs take on the role of ASM within months.
Responsibilities
Yes. After Store Assistant Training and Store Management Training, IPs go to a third store to complete their Assistant Store Manager Cover. During this team you are not only responsible for entire store teams but you are graded on your ability to complete tasks and manage people. Throughout the placement IPs also shadow an Area Manager mentor and sometimes cover for them for a week whilst they are on annual leave
Support & Guidance
Plenty. From day one you are assigned an area manager mentor who you can contact for help. Additionally store management teams who train you in store are very supportive and you will build relationships with them that can help you throughout the rest of your placement.
Culture
There is no denying that you have to work incredibly hard at Aldi. Working in store is highly physical however store teams are very supportive and there was a positive and friendly culture in all the stores I worked in.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement. Firstly, it was extremely rewarding to see improvement in the store i completed my ASM cover. I also felt very proud upon completion my project presentation to the store operations directors as it was a piece of work which I put a lot of time and effort into
