Overview
Conducting research to assist planning professionals in meeting the needs of their clients. Completing site visits and sitting in on planning meetings from the pre-application stage through to the later stages, gaining valuable hands-on experience and an additional perspective from the council's side. Receiving regular talks from Savills employees, providing overviews of the various departments and career paths available.
Skills
I now have a much better understanding of the entire planning process. The ability to efficiently and thoroughly research and navigate planning applications from various Authorities. I also improved my communication skills by interacting with planners and learning how to complete the tasks assigned to me.
Responsibilities
I was given enough responsibility, which increased as the internship progressed, and I had a better rapport with my coworkers and a better understanding of what the various projects entailed.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of guidance, especially from my graduate mentor who constantly aided me when I was unsure how to undergo certain tasks. Coworkers were constantly going out of their way to improve my knowledge and give me an insight into their projects and career paths.
Culture
Very friendly and family-like atmosphere. You immediately felt like you belonged in the office.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed it. I learned a lot and got a good idea of what a job in planning would entail if I decided to pursue it in the future. After this experience, I am strongly encouraged to apply for the graduate scheme.
