Overview
Aligning plant stock with supplier stock. Ensuring there are no negative stock in the system. Responsibility for Volvo Emballage stock takes. Booking in deliveries / invoice queries
Skills
I have become a lot more accustomed to using Excel and other Microsoft applications confidently. I have learnt to communicate effectively with colleagues and external suppliers. I have learnt how to prioritise tasks and manage my time efficiently.
Responsibilities
I think I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement, which has given me a real feel of what it would be like to work full time in a business. I was worried when I started that my role wouldn't be taken seriously as a placement student, but I have been treated like one of the team members.
Support & Guidance
Unfortunately, because of Covid and staff shortages, I didn't receive as much support / guidance at the beginning of my placement which has made me think I could have done better than what I have done in the past year. The good thing about this though was that I have learnt to stand on my own two feet, ask questions and learnt to speak up if I am struggling.
Culture
I think I would have enjoyed the general atmosphere more had there not been a pandemic - there are quite a lot of departments working from home and they only come on site once a week so I haven't really had the chance to meet as many people as I could have.
Your Impressions
I have enjoyed my placement because it has given me confidence, independence and skills that I don't think I would have grasped if I had had just had a "regular job" in a shop or in retail during my deferral year. I am also confident that this has left me in good stead for when I finish my degree because I have created my own network of contacts and relationships.
Yes
I would ask questions about relocation prior to starting because I have relocated for my job, but unfortunately have felt quite lonely and isolated outside of work. It is just important to be happy outside of work as it is during office hours because these factors can really affect your work and the standards that you work to.
