Overview
Validating invoices to ensure suppliers are paid. Working with other finance teams to improve processes and reduce wasted time. Being contact person for suppliers, for certain entities, should they have any queries or issues with their invoices/payments. Constantly involved in at least one project to boost personal development.
Skills
Improved hard skills such as using Excel, data analysis and meeting SOx requirements. Soft skills included time management, confidence, team working, networking, communication, professionalism. Improved soft skills has had a positive effect on me in, and out, of work.
Responsibilities
Being treated like a colleague, instead of a student, meant I was given lots of responsibility, with guidance or autonomy, that had a real impact on the company. Improving supplier relationships through getting invoices paid on time impacted the supplier relationships throughout other departments. I have been on projects which have changed the future of my role, to improve efficiency and effectiveness. I am treated as a valuable team member.
Support & Guidance
My line manager and colleagues have greatly supported me with my work. Even those outside of my department have always been willing to help, and I was trained to do the same. The mentoring scheme was useful to raise any questions/issues that were not work related, but where I still needed support.
Culture
Great company culture that cares a lot about employees. Volunteering is encouraged, even inside working hours. Many different groups/training available for those who want to learn more. I still get to meet new people and be part of the company community, even though I am not in the office.
Your Impressions
Thoroughly enjoyed my placement and looking to return to the company on the graduate program, to improve my knowledge and abilities even further. The company and my team have supported me greatly, which has contributed to my great experience. I had not expected to have enjoyed my placement so much.
Yes
Preparation and passion is needed for interview and assessment centre. Do not be afraid to ask for help. You should have a need to learn more and develop yourself. Driving continuous improvement is at the heart of the company.
