    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • Comprehensive introductions and debriefs are given on the first and last day. The bulk of the programme consists of networking and shadowing current PwC colleagues in the service area that you applied to. The shadowing can consist of sitting in during meetings, conducting research, data processing and preparing and presenting parts of projects. The programme was conducted online through the google meet platform. The typical day began at 9 am and ended at 5 pm.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During the project there were opportunities to participate in the project work of the colleague that you were shadowing. This can consist of developing research and presentation skills while actively helping your colleague in their current work. The skill of networking is developed through frequent catch ups with different staff members, requiring you to be able to glean information from them while being able to present yourself to them and the company. No training courses were given due to the short nature of the placement.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • Understanding about the business and potential roles involved hearing opinions from different people about their background, career path and the company culture. Everybody spoke of the work culture as sociable and healthy for progression and collaboration. The background of people that I interacted with was varied, showing that potential roles are available to those who are enthusiastic and willing, not necessarily requiring a specific degree or prerequisite knowledge. People have been able to work with different teams and on different secondments, hence roles are not necessarily fixed rigidly.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company has numerous activities and societies for cultural and recreational activities. Company-wide events happen regularly, especially to do with charity and community outreach such as volunteering days off and a yearly charity play. There are several sports teams and forming meaningful friendships which are not strictly work related is said to be common. When not working, there are internal channels for more casual communication/networking. There are mentorship programmes where more senior colleagues are willing to chat generally and about your career.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the insight, as it gave a realistic experience of the PwC work culture, as well as some of the typical workings of someone within my line of service. All of the staff members that I encountered were very willing to give their time to explain their work and their projects, as well as enquiring about myself and advising on what they do and how best to achieve success in their respective roles.

  • 7. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC
  • In the interview process you should be prepared for both live video interviews with multiple staff members and recorded video interviews, where you must respond to a prompt. The assessment centre is a whole day events, which requires a computer with an internet connection. If you join, I would advise applying to the line of service which you are most interested in, and one which you have done research on, as it is not possible to transfer between lines of service.
