Overview
Shadowed a manager in the consulting line of service. I had meetings with various other members of the firm in different areas of consulting and I was able to ask any questions I had. Everyone was really lovely and super helpful in sharing information about their career so far. I then also had an opportunity to work in a group on a case study which we had a chance to present.
Skills
I worked on networking skills since there were many presentations and shorter meetings where this skill could be developed. During the case study preparation, we had many check-ins with our superiors who provided us with a lot of really useful information regarding the slides, content and presentation skills too.
Business Insight
The Women in Business programme did a fantastic job in giving us a much more detailed view of what potential roles are available. Due to the short nature of the programme, there wasn't enough time to go in-depth into each specific potential role in consulting, however, the high-level overview that we did get gave me a much clearer picture of consulting at PwC, career development/progression and so on.
Culture
Every single person I spoke to in meetings cited the company culture as one of the main reasons for why they chose PwC and if they had been working there for a longer time, why they have chosen to stay. I had the chance to shadow a call and this gave me an insight into the general atmosphere of PwC: relaxed, professional, respectful. All colleagues clearly really respect each other and seem to get on well. Seeing this was really nice as it confirmed that PwC is famous for its positive company culture for a reason.
Your Impressions
Really fantastic experience. Even though the recruitment process was very long, I think it is worth it because the programme is well structured and the mentors we got really knew what they were doing.
Yes
Reach out to any mentors you may have when doing the assessments to get some advice. Make sure you have well-defined and thought-through motivations for applying and just try your hardest at all the tasks that are assigned.
