Overview
Sustaining of current hardware around the business. Dealing with both internal and customer bugs. Also support R&D activities related to mechanical engineering. Engage with suppliers and customer to deliver the best product as possible. Having meetings to keep track of my progress and tasks and how to achieve them.
Skills
I improved a lot my knowledge and skills related to mechanical drawings, assemblies, design for manufacturing and assembly, manufacturing knowledge, and business protocols. In addition, I had the chance to practice my presentation skills which in return, helped me to further my interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities
I was responsible for designing two test rigs for critical life tests. From requirements, I had to create concepts, designs, new hardware, drawings and BOMs and get the required off-the-shelf parts from external suppliers. I led the whole project. I also built the rigs when the parts arrived and made sure the rigs were working as intended.
Support & Guidance
I received training on NX, Teamcenter, how to order new parts, how to navigate through the company and where to go to get answers. Every time I had doubts or something I was not sure about, someone has been there to help me.
Culture
Very welcoming, everyone wants you to do your best and they encourage you to do so. About long-term carrier goals, I think the company needs to work on this as there are not many routs of progression within the company.
Your Impressions
I had a great time inside and outside the company. I made new friends and met really interesting people. I improved as an engineer and I feel ready for my future ahead. I even applied for the Graduate Scheme of ASM so I would like to come back if given the opportunity.
Yes
Talk to many people as possible. Learning from personal experiences is really valuable. Sometimes as important as technical knowledge
