Overview
Daily work involved attending presentations from departments in the mornings, completing work that has been set by your supervisor or attending meetings, calls or talks with other people during the day and usually finishing the day off with a certain social event such as playing a game or going to a restaurant.
Skills
I have developed my research, analytical and multi-tasking skills, this role required me to research a lot of new topics that I was not initially familiar with but also learn how to deduce what information is relevant to my topic. My multi-tasking skills have also improved as this role required me to engage in a range of tasks throughout the day.
Business Insight
It was very good we received talks from the executive team, responsible business team, and practice area teams. During talks with practice area's we often spoke with people at all levels so a trainee, an associate and a partner. This allowed us to learn about their experiences and their career progression.
Culture
The atmosphere was beautiful, everyone has been lovely. The firm also has a range of diversity networks such as IRIS who deal with LGBTQ+ related topics and the Social Mobility Network. Showing the firm has a dedication to supporting people from a range of backgrounds, there was also a legal charity walk which shows the firm has a dedication to donating to charity and whilst not working we went out for food and even picnics.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it a lot, the work was very engaging and broad, nothing was ever the same. The teams I worked in were also very supportive and kind which helped make me feel more welcome and relaxed. This insight exceeded my expectations there was a lot I came into the firm expecting and I was met with that but I was also met with more whether it be the work or the companies open-door policy.
Yes
Be yourself and make the most of it, everyone wants the best for you and wants you to succeed. If you are ever struggling or find something challenging your trainee buddy will always be there to support and help you with work. I was inspired to join by attending talks where I heard about the work the firm engages in and also the culture, and wanted to experience this first hand.
