Overview
Mondays and Fridays were spent with the Graduate Recruitment Team listening to presentations from members of the firm and working in groups on an innovation project. Tuesdays-Thursdays were spent in one of the firm’s practice groups working alongside an associate on different tasks.
Skills
Developed my attention to detail, commercial awareness and communication skills through working with my trainer. Also developed my confidence and ability to work in a team through the group project. Learned specific skills like how to take a call note and draft a client email.
Business Insight
Presentations helped to understand how the various departments and global offices work together. We also had the chance to speak to lawyers of all seniorities, from trainee to partner, to understand career progression at the firm.
Culture
Very high performance workplace but equally a friendly and sociable environment. Senior lawyers were very approachable.
Your Impressions
It was very enjoyable to gain insight at one of the most successful law firms in the UK and the world. The work I was provided with was challenging and engaging and I had the chance to network with people from across the firm.
Yes
Understand the firm’s USPs and sectors of strength. Show an interest in and understanding of the wider business world and how legal services are relevant. Demonstrate your transferable skills through any experience you have which doesn’t need to be legal. Don’t be afraid to be yourself in interviews - they want people who are genuine and sociable.
