Overview
Responsible for maintaining and developing software solutions to support the business. Working within an agile team and having daily meetings. Developing business analytics solutions using Power BI, SQL and Python for communicating the data to a wider audience. Having meetings with other people within a business and discussing potential areas for improvement Maintaining current software solutions and ensuring that everything works as expected. Solving various problems with the current technologies to make sure the business can run as smoothly as possible
Skills
I have learned how to develop full-stack web applications showing real-time production data in MS Azure using python, sql and javascript. I have learned how to train AI models for image classification that is used in the production environment to ensure the quality of our products. I have learned how to work in a professional Agile development team, which improved my soft skills and confidence for future work. I have learned how to approach various problems and how to deal with customers when something goes wrong
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of responsibility, all of the projects I worked on were mainly my projects and it was up to me how to approach and solve a given problem. I was even allowed to access the production critical system and deploy my own application in the production environment. I was also responsible for day to day maintenance of our existing software, which was critical for the business to be able to meet their production targets
Support & Guidance
I have received all the support I needed, the work was mostly independent and I was entrusted with coming up with the best solution, but anytime I got stuck somewhere there was always someone I could reach out to ask for help and guidance. We also had daily meeting where we all shared our progress and where everyone shared their issues so we could all try to think and come up with the best solution for any given problem.
Culture
The atmosphere within the company was professional but still quite open and relaxed, I have made a lot of friends during my placement and I was able to have a conversation with almost anyone in the business. For me most of the projects I worked on came up to me from a conversation over coffee with my colleagues and just listening to their problems. Overall I think the company culture and atmosphere is very good and I always felt welcomed.
Your Impressions
I have really enjoyed my time at BMW, mostly because I was able to work on projects that I was really interested in and I was given the opportunity to come up with my own solutions. I also really liked that I could work on important, production-critical tasks and the solutions I build I still used every day by many people within a business. It has really shown me how my IT skills can benefit other people in the real world.
Yes
I would advise everyone to apply as soon as possible and prepare for the interviews. The application process is quite straight forward and the final interview was more like an hour-long conversation with my future manager. With that said you will be asked questions about the company, how they operate, what are they doing etc. and is really good to be able to answer all of them because it can really distinguish you from the rest of the applicants
