Overview
Daily Standups, Presentations and code demonstartions to clients. Working towards client goals. For more technical roles - writing and contributing code. Consulting on technical stacks and working out the feasibility of work.
Skills
I have gained Full-stack developer skills. Presenting to large audience. Working using agile and scale agile. Navigating different parts of a project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
Yes, I am expected to work independently on large projects with high values, but am constantly supported by more senior members of the organisation. I have a lot of direct contact with clients. As a developer, I have been allowed to push code to production on large accounts.
Support & Guidance
I have had a lot of support from both of my managers, one targeted towards daily work and one towards career progression. I also have support from my mentor and my buddy who both have taught and supported me through lots of challenges. I have also been supported by all of the members of my practice and IBM has initiatives aimed to support early professionals which have provided a lot of support.
Culture
I was based within a part of IBM Consulting called iX. The culture within iX is amazing. Everyone works really well together, there are frequent events to attend, from drinks, to sports days and scavenger hunts. The intern community within IBM is also a fun and friendly place with many communities running events and days out.
Your Impressions
I found my internship challenging, fun and rewarding. I have learnt so much and met so many people. It has really shaped what I want to do in the future and also prepared me well for my 3rd year of University.
Yes
When researching, look for IBM's core values and make sure you tailor your responses within your application, interview or assessment centre to those values. It will also help you to understand the company better and give you an idea of how to answer questions.
