Overview
As a communications manager, I mainly manage internal comms within the account I work in particularly. I help produce communications materials from the managing partner to the practitioners working on the account. I also create 'people agenda' initiatives that aid in the upskilling, recognition, health and wellbeing etc of practitioners. I also help streamline the many processes on the account for leadership executies.
Skills
Through the internal training/learning platform, I have been able to touch on technical skills such as: - AI - Salesforce - SAP Project Management skills including: - Design thinking - Agile - IBM Garage I have also been given many opportunities which allowed me to mentor early professionals/people who want to enter the industry. This helped grow my communications and people management skills as well.
Responsibilities
Yes, I was given ownership of various projects with me directly reporting to leadership executives. All my work were exposed to the whole account and wider company where applicable. Practitioners come to me directly for queries and help, and I am given resources which allow me to access management tools and build central repositories for newly onboarded practitioners for example. I am constantly given the recognition for the work that I own.
Support & Guidance
Aside from having a foundation manager who oversees your placement experience, I have a task manager, who I work with on the same team. I was constantly given different kinds of resources in terms of training, task management tools so that I was on top of my tasks. I was also given feedback on a regular basis and was given opportunities that will allow me to make the most out of my placement.
Culture
There are a wide variety of communities and activities that you can take part in, you can even initiate your own communities/projects. I have been able to work with people from a very diverse background, which enabled me to expand my worldview. There are lots of social events, apart from a trip to the pub, so if drinking is not for you, there are definitely other avenues where you can network
Your Impressions
It has been amazing, I've learned so much from my year here, and has changed me completely. The team that I worked with closely everyday were very welcoming and fun to work with, and has helped me along the way in my professional growth. It was much more enriching than I had expected, and I never knew at this age I would be given so much opportunities to work with experience professionals.
