    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role is heavily based on metric collating on technical software's such as Microsoft excel, SAP (Manufacturing software solution) and more. This allows me to interpret and analyse data for our CS department and pick out decisive errors or highlight key data. Alongside project work, this year i have worked alongside team members and different functions to create real life projects to add value to the business.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Yes, i would say the key learning outcome for me was my development in technical softwares. As i already had some experience, however the knowledge was limited, however now i would say i have adept knowledge in Microsoft Excel and the VBA Coding element that comes with it. In addition to the introduction of Power BI & SAP (Manufacturing software solution)

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, i was giving responsibilities on a team basis, regarding setting up and preparing meetings, which then extended to the manufacturing shop floor meetings, which i began to attend and contribute ideas and analysis by creating graphs and metrics to highlight key issues. In addition to my project work, creating a credit note form with an abundance of data and formulas embedded which gets distributed to finance for our customers

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • My line managers and team members were always just a step away. This changed throughout the year due to coivd-19, as most communication would be done on Teams, however this started to change from work from home, to being back in the office, which enabled a more practical sense of communication.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • As mentioned previous, covid restricted the atmosphere alot, however when people became more involved in office life we began to do more office related things which helped morale. Such as office birthdays, events and getting practically involved with charity and wellness events. As well as helping run our St Patrick's day celebrations at Eaton

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement year at Eaton, it was my first involvement in a full time job in a multi national corporation. And i think it has provided me a foundation for business acumen in the work environment. I would definitely come back to Eaton on the graduate scheme, as it met my expectations and exceeded them in aspects, with a awesome team in CS it has made it a fantastic year all round.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Eaton
  • Make sure you do your research in the place your applying to, as Eaton is a massive business that has diversified in a huge array of products streams and segments, in hundreds of countries. Also come with questions, i have learnt so much this year, by asking simple questions like Why? To help further understand reasons why things are done to help with your development.
