Overview
Role is based around business rates. Work involved includes general Rates management, consultancy services and revaluations. Main day-to-day responsibilities primarily include sending correct leasehold and freehold information to the Valuation Office, running exercises for clients to find where they are paying excessive amounts in business rates, and checking bills to make sure that clients are paying the correct amount. Overall workload however is varied.
Skills
My skills in relation to Outlook, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Teams have all improved considerably. My specific industry knowledge has massively improved including relevant statute and case law, the CCA process, different methods in valuation, and understanding how to calculate Rates liability.
Responsibilities
I have been given plenty of responsibility during my placement. I have been trusted to carry out revaluations on client properties and finding my own work and projects on top of meaningful tasks that have been passed over. I have been responsible working directly with clients without the need of supervision.
Support & Guidance
I have received plenty of support and guidance from specific colleagues as well as the wider team. All colleagues have been open to discussions relating to any questions I may have as well as my general workload and support.
Culture
Company culture and general atmosphere have been positive. A good work-to-life balance is enforced and there are a broad range of social events and activities held. There is a somewhat flexible work arrangement involved and colleagues as well as other staff are all friendly and easy to talk to.
Your Impressions
I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement and I am disappointed that I have to leave it behind while I finish my final year at university. The work has been fulfilling, I have enjoyed working with my team and the placement has greatly exceeded my expectations. I would go back and reapply again at Savills and it would also be my first choice for a graduate role.
