Overview
The vacation scheme was in person and lasted for four days. I shared an office with my supervisor who was an associate in one of the Banking and Finance groups. We had to complete a research task during those days but we were also free to attend talks on various practice areas and have conversations with other lawyers. There were also activities with the other vacation schemers and our trainee mentors.
Skills
This vacation scheme was very useful for further developing research skills and learning more about specific practice areas. A new skill learnt includes the formatting for client memos.
Business Insight
It was really interesting to learn more about the many different practice areas that Latham offers and how you are able to get involved in other aspects such as pro bono, mentorship and the firm's global affinity groups. I found it very encouraging that the great culture at the firm that I had heard about was confirmed first-hand during this vacation scheme.
Culture
This vacation scheme confirmed the great things I had heard about Latham's culture. Everyone I met was clearly very hard-working and knowledgeable but also so friendly and ready to help and answer questions you had. As I was able to share an office with my supervisor it was great to see the collegiality first-hand.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the vacation scheme and I appreciated how we were given flexibility to manage our own time to complete the research task but also attend talks and have conversations with other lawyers. We were also able to express an interest of practice areas before the vacation scheme started and I was given my top choice so that was also good.
