Overview
From a fast moving business and industry it was adamant that I needed to adapt my work to maintain the pace the company moved. Over my placement my role shifted from a member of a small support team to being one of the leading supports for the business unit. multiple people within IBM were able to support me throughout the entire process and help me wherever they were able.
Skills
This placement has enabled me to develop multiple business and personal skills including, indeendence, decisiveness and time keeping. There are plenty of opportunities within the company to grow and share knowledge both within your specifc business unit and elsewhere in the company.
Responsibilities
The responsibility over the placement increased as time went on due to an extending trust from the team. There was also an increased workload and responsibility as more areas of the business would ask for support or ideas of how to start similar processes to what I was doing in my main role.
Support & Guidance
The support received varied as the placement went on from having a large amount of support from my team to get me up to speed on my required ativities. this then slowed down as time went on however there were always constant contacts for support if I ever needed it. IBM made constant awareness of the places I could to for support if needed.
Culture
IBM has a very supportive environment and a constant culture of togetherness. there are multiple events during the year to encourage socialising and networking allowing us all to enjoy ourselves and let off steam with our co-workers.
Your Impressions
This internship is based purely on what you put into it. If you want to use your year to socialise and build up your skills there are a range of options for that to be done. If you want to keep your head down and focus on the job you are also welcome to do that.
Yes
For those looking to apply to the IBM internship programme I would recommend not worrying about how much business experience you already have. tehy understand that you are a young student and have likely very little. when an application or interview asks for experience examples use in life examples from things like school/clubs/sports as they are still vaild expereince examples.
