Overview
I work alongside my buddy and line manager - attending meetings, shadowing and completing tasks. I also get the opportunity to attend meetings, go to conferences and meet/work with people across the rest of the bank. I also engage with Business projects and CSR challenges, attend spotlight learning sessions as well as other social or networking activities.
Skills
I have been developing non technical skills in networking, communication, leadership and organisation. More importantly I have been learning a vast amount of technical skills, from responsible investing, to fund research, to asset managment, to risk awareness and financial services. I have begun to understand some of the different moving parts of the bank and how they relate to each other.
Responsibilities
I have been given opportunities for responsibility in the projects I am undertaking but equally I am given autonomy in deciding who I want to talk to across the bank. It is down to me to an extent to put myself out there and make the most of the experience.
Support & Guidance
I have received a decent level of support from my graduate buddy and line manager in particular. However, everyone in the business seems open to provide guidance, advice and expertise.
Culture
It is amazing. It has completely altered my perception of the finance industry as everyone is so welcoming, helpful and nice.
Your Impressions
I am really enjoying it so far. I had limited idea what I would be getting up to but I have enjoyed it very much so far.
Yes
Be yourself and be interested in others around you. Be supportive and determined.
