Overview
The Network Development team ensure that Toyota and Lexus have the right Dealers, in the right locations, to represent our Brands in the right way to customers. Within the student role, I have supported the implementation of an EV infrastructure, the rollout of a new Centre design concept and worked with key suppliers to ensure all the Network is representing the brand in the best way. Three of many business areas!
Skills
This placement has provided endless opportunities to develop existing skills but also to learn new skills. I have had the chance to develop my Presentation and Public Speaking skills which have been further enhanced through opportunities to present throughout my role. Additionally, I have been able to learn Project Management skills and utilise these across all different business areas. Within these projects, I have also been able to develop my stakeholder communication and prioritisation abilities.
Responsibilities
From the beginning, I was provided with a very good level of responsibility that matched my confidence levels. However, as my confidence increased and I put my hand up for all kinds of tasks, I was met with considerable responsibility to handle key information and eventually, take the operational lead on a project. If you show motivation and eagerness to take on more responsibility, Toyota GB will absolutely listen.
Support & Guidance
Firstly, the development plan for employees provides very good guidance throughout the year. After setting objectives, you keep a track of progress through quarterly reviews with your manager and continue to update the development plan. Secondly, the support I received from my team has been perfect. My manager has always provided guidance when it is needed and the team as a whole has supported me brilliantly over the course of the year.
Culture
The general ethos of the company has been incredibly friendly, supportive and fun. This really matches the general culture, as there is always a focus placed on supporting each other through collaboration and inclusivity. On top of that, there is always a push to use 'Kaizen' - continuous improvement - to challenge ways of doing things. There are also great opportunities to stay social through sports clubs, the gym and charity events.
Your Impressions
I have massively enjoyed the placement! The actual job role and work has been perfect in providing a holistic view of corporate work and automotive industry work. My team and the wider culture has provided huge amounts of support and long lasting friendships. It has gone well above my expectations and the opportunities I have been exposed to seem endless. I would definitely return to the company.
Yes
My inspiration for applying to Toyota GB stemmed from my interest in the automotive industry. However, this is absolutely not a pre requisite for working at Toyota. Prepare well for recorded and in person interviews, both on general interview questions and knowledge on Toyota. Overall, show the drive that you have for a placement and be yourself!
