Overview
During the first, the firm flew over interns from all around the UK and Dubai to the London office. We week we had the opportunity to attend talks by many senior people and the firm and ask questions. During the other two weeks, all interns joined their departments in their respective office and helped the team on a variety of tasks such as legal research, reviewing documents, etc.
Skills
Definitely. The firm even organised a talk with a professional networking coach to help us improve our people, speaking, and presentation skills. Other than that I personally learned many practical skills such as how to structure research memos, draft emails to clients, and conduct in depth research.
Business Insight
Learning about how such a global firm allocates responsibilities across departments, offices and jurisdictions was quite an eye-opening experience. I understood more than just the role of a lawyer during these three weeks. I also had the opportunity to understand what global group heads do and how they affect the firm's strategy.
Culture
Incredible. From the first contact with the Early Careers team before joining the firm all the way to the actual internship, everyone was extremely friendly and open to chat. Even during working hours, all the lawyers made time to discuss their work with the interns and offered us a time slot to have coffee and ask any questions that we may have.

Yes
I know this piece of advice is overused, but be yourself. DLA Piper has such an inclusive culture that you will feel appreciated no matter what. Also, the firm is so big that no matter how niche your interests may be, you will find an area of work that definitely appeals to you. Only in the IP department, I've spoken to people that work in the fashion, sports, and life sciences industries.
