Overview
The first week is hosted at HQ in London and is a mixture of talks from senior leaders in the firm and skills workshops. Two weeks are then spent in the office you apply to, and you sit in two practice areas (one a week). Each week, every intern has a partner as a supervisor and they give various pieces of work, from research tasks and drafting to attending client calls.
Skills
I have developed my networking skills following advice and workshops in the first week. I have also improved my presentation skills, again following a workshop but also following a group presentation in the second week. Alongside this, my drafting and writing skills have developed and partners and associates are really on hand to offer feedback.
Business Insight
It has been very easy and interesting getting to grips with the business and finding out about the potential roles available. While the firm has a UK wide policy, some of the potential roles are slightly dependant on the office's specialisms.
Culture
The culture and atmosphere is excellent. Partners are approachable, and I actually found my Partners were wanting to strike up a conversation. While being busy, people were more than happy to offer advice or point you in the right direction. Outside of the office, people are friendly and interesting.
Your Impressions
I have loved this internship and would recommend the firm to anyone who is thinking of applying for vacation schemes.
Yes
Try and be as genuine as possible. It is very easy to rehearse answers and come across very polished, but they are looking for people who are genuinely curious and they want to work with. In group exercises listen more than you speak, and always think about who your audience is.
