Overview
Supporting other Liaison Engineers with bespoke and series production problems until eventually you have your own topics. Understanding and implementing solutions to the problems involving testing, data collection and trials. Completing long term projects that have been assigned to you or you have assigned to yourself. Generally involves improvement projects fo exsisting processes.
Skills
Catia V5 CAD skills, learnt during this year. Problem solving skills developed. Learnt about Six Sigma and statistical process control. Developed Excel and PowerPoint skills. Soft skills like public speaking, networking and presenting developed.
Responsibilities
Responsibility increased throughout the year. Moving from just supporting the team and other departments with topics to owning some topics and becoming the expert on the topics. You become a trusted member of the team, giving feedback to the team and to the Munich Engineering team as well.
Support & Guidance
There was always support from the team generally whenever you needed support. I always had a mentor that I would have regular 1-to-1's with to discuss anything from Uni work to personal life, supporting my personal development. The Lead Engineer would always offer or give support when it was needed in a similar manner to my mentor. Structure of the team: Intern -> Mentor -> Lead Engineer -> Manager of the team
Culture
Generally a good atmosphere at RRMC but with some improvements needing to be made. I have loved working there and going to work there everyday for the last year. The people at the company are very helpful and a pleasure to work with on the whole. Only negative things are revolving around a large focus on green statuses rather than sometimes fixing the problem.
Your Impressions
I have loved my placement. I would highly recommend this placement for anyone that loves cars and engineering. I think it is one of the best placements at the company with a team that is also hard to beat. It has been great for several reasons but I think the main reason has been the way the team has helped me to greatly develop as an Engineer over the last 12 months.
Yes
I would research the automotive sector in detail ready for the Recorded interviews and In-person/Teams interviews. Know your CV and cover letter inside and out so when questioned on it you can explain anything in detail.
