Overview
The internship was 3 weeks in duration. The first week was an induction week in London, with numerous networking opportunities and interesting, various talks from Partners from different practice groups within the firm, as well as a formal dinner. All of the meals were provided for. For the rest of the internship, we were allocated to two practice groups, one for a week. We had to meet different objectives during our time in the teams. The talks from Partners were still taking place, just virtually.
Skills
The internship helped me develop all kinds of skills, starting from legal and professional skills such as drafting documents, producing notes from client meetings, proofreading, conducting due diligence, to personal skills such as networking, presentation skills, time management, among others.
Business Insight
I properly learned about the functioning of a business such as a law firm, the types of daily activities that they undertake, what are the subdepartments within the practice groups, what exactly the practice groups within the firm do, what it means to have a sector based approach, what is the importance of networking for my future career, among others.
Culture
Everyone is very friendly and approachable, you can ask as many questions as you want, everyone is willing to supervise and teach you. You do feel valued by everyone, especially within your practice groups and during the talks by the Partners. We were also each assigned a 'Buddy' who made it much easier to accommodate within the firm and always have someone to talk to.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it a lot, not only did I learn a lot but also got the opportunity to meet many valuable people. The insight is full of opportunities and it is clear that everyone in the firm wants you to succeed.
Yes
During the application process, try to link your answers to your hobbies, experiences, etc, and be yourself. If you enjoy the internship and the firm, then the chances that you are the fit for the firm are big!
