Overview
I was involved in various research tasks relevant to my department. Alongside the research tasks, I was involved in the day-to-day work of a trainee including joining client calls, contract reviews, and drafting documents. I also had the opportunity to interact with staff members across different sectors. Daily insight sessions were provided which helped me develop my sector knowledge.
Skills
I have developed practical legal skills such as my drafting, communication, and research skills. I was able to interact on many occasions with a variety of people, which helped to enhance my networking ability too.
Business Insight
It was interesting challenging my preconceptions about certain sectors such as tax and gaining a better understanding of how each department works both separately and collaboratively. The Early Careers team provided a comprehensive outlook on the opportunities available at the firm.
Culture
The company culture is built on collaboration. The staff are very helpful and welcoming which creates an open environment and effective learning space. The atmosphere was always friendly and there was a lack of hierarchal imposition.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the insight a lot and hoped to continue it for a longer period of time. The work given gave an insight on day-to-day expectations and allowed me to gain actual experience. Alongside this, the networking opportunities provided are invaluable.
Yes
Be yourself. DLA cares about the person, rather than formal qualifications that may act as a barrier to opportunities. Be friendly, ask lots of questions, and enjoy yourself.
